About this course:
 
This course is undertaken at Sheffield College and is designed for candidates who have taken mainly Arts subjects at A Level or graduates who have studied non science subjects. The Pre-medical Science Foundation Course is a modified Access to Science course, which has been tailored to give students with a non scientific background the necessary basic knowledge to undertake the medical course. It is designed to prepare students for Phase 1 of the medical course and is studied at Sheffield College. During the course students will visit local hospitals to see the clinical relevance of the sciences they are studying.

Course Duration: 6 years - 1 year foundation, 5 years medicine.

Entrance requirements:
   
A levels: AABb: You should study four AS subjects and aim for a grade A and three Bs in any subjects. However, we remain flexible over AS results and place more emphasis on GCSE’s and A2 levels. Our usual offer for subjects taken at A2 level is AAB. Please note that General Studies is not acceptable. Applicants should not have taken a combination of subjects that would make them eligible for the standard entry route. If students have taken chemistry and one other science at A2 they will not be eligible for the course and should apply to the A100 course.
GCSEs: You must have GCSE passes, or their equivalent, at grade C or above in Chemistry, Mathematics and English and preferably Biology and Physics. You should have at least six A grades in GCSE subjects.
Resit policy: Applicants who resit for the first time and obtain AAA at A2 will be considered for this course.
Entrance Exam: UKCAT
   

 

Alternative qualifications:
   
Scottish Highers: AAAAB + Advanced Highers: AB. Applicants who have studied chemistry at advanced higher should not apply. They should apply to the A100 (5-year) course.
International Baccalaureate: 35 points overall to include 6s in Higher Level subjects and no less than 4 in Standard Level subjects. Applicants should not have studied many science subjects. Those who have taken chemistry and one other science subject should apply to the standard 5-year course.
Irish Leaving certificate: AAAAAB - Applicants should not have studied many science subjects. Those who have taken chemistry and one other science subject should apply to the standard 5-year course (A100).
   

 

Entrance requirements for graduates:
   
Degree: Minimum 2.1 required
Applicants should have a degree in a non-science subject.
Options for 2.2 students: Applicants with a 2.2 are very rarely accepted. Only those with a PhD, masters degree or good A levels will be considered. Extenuating circumstances may also be taken into account. It is essential that you contact the university prior to applying to make sure you would be considered.
