| About this course: |
| If you do not have the required science qualifications for entry into the 5 year MB ChB course but have either achieved good A2-level grades in other subjects, or can demonstrate equivalent academic competence or potential, you may apply for the Foundation Year. This course is offered to both medical and dental applicants and is specifically designed to prepare students from diverse educational backgrounds for entry to the 5 year courses offered by the Manchester Medical School and the Manchester Dental School. Core learning objectives of the course include foundations of basic biomedical sciences including Chemistry, Human Biology and Statistics. Part of the programme comprises lectures at Xaverian College (www.xaverian.ac.uk) which is a short walk from the University of Manchester main campus. The college has an enviable reputation as a provider of innovative and effective Foundation Programme design and delivery. This didactic component is supplemented by an enquiry based learning programme based in Manchester Medical School and prepares students for entry to the 5 year MB ChB and BDS courses. Wherever the location, please be assured that you are always a student of The University of Manchester, with access to all its facilities and support systems. A combination of formative and summative assessment is used to measure performance. Entry to the five year course is automatic on satisfactory completion of the year. Course Duration: 6 years - One year foundation, five years medicine |
