Applying to Medical School

You should begin laying the foundations of a good application long before you actually send off your UCAS form as there are a number of stages involved in applying to medical school. Use the links below to find out more.

1. Deciding that you want to do medicine.

2. Researching what a career in medicine involves.

3. Doing work experience or volunteering in a health or social care setting.

4. Applying for and taking any entrance exams that are required.

5. Deciding which medical schools you would like to apply to & making sure you are eligible.

6. Filling in your UCAS form - all applications are handled by UCAS.

7. Getting vaccinations

8. Going to interviews.

Once you have gone through this process, you will receive offers or rejections from medical schools. Alternatively, you may be placed on a waiting list, meaning the medical school would like to offer you a place but have no places left. In this case, you may be offered a place if someone decides not to take up their offer. If you receive any offers, you then need to fulfill the academic requirements and pass police checks and health checks. Then all you need to do is learn medicine - that's the easy part!
