Chemistry required at full A2 level.

Biology:

Not essential, as long as you take A2 maths or physics.

Other subjects:

Most other subjects are accepted as a third A2, provided you have at least 2 sciences at A2.

Resit policy:

Resits are not accepted unless there are extenuating circumstances. Candidates who take more than the normal number of years to obtain their qualifications will only be considered if there have been extenuating circumstances that are fully documented.

Exceptional circumstances might include, for example, ill health during the final year of study. It might also include attending a school which traditionally has a low number of pupils going on to Higher Education.

GCSE requirements:

If Biology and Mathematics are not offered at Advanced (A2) or AS Level, each must normally have been passed at GCSE grade B or better. Dual award Science is not acceptable in lieu of GCSE Biology.

A pass must also be offered in GCSE English at grade B or better.

Scottish Highers:

AAAAB (at Higher) including Chemistry and one other of Biology, Mathematics or Physics.
These grades should normally be obtained at the same sitting. Exceptions may be made for candidates who attend schools who are unable to present pupils for five Highers at one sitting.
If Biology or Mathematics has not been passed at Higher grade, each must normally have been passed at Standard Grade Credit Level (grade 1 or 2) or Intermediate 2 (grade A or B).
A pass must also be offered in Standard Grade English at Credit Level (grade 1 or 2) or Intermediate 2 (grade A or B).
There is no direct entry from 5th Year at school. Offers will be made on the Higher qualifications obtained during 5th Year.
Recommendations for 6th Year would include further study. In particular, Advanced Higher Chemistry and Biology would be welcomed.

International Baccalaureate:

37 points gained as follows: Higher Level, 3 passes at Grade 7, 6, 6, including Chemistry and one other of Biology, Mathematics or Physics. Subsidiary Level, 3 passes at Grade 6, including whichever of Mathematics or Biology is lacking at Higher Level; and including a pass in English if this is not gained at Higher Level.

Irish Leaving certificate:

AAAAAA at Higher level. Passes should include Chemistry, English, Mathematics, and Biology.
If someone has not sat the appropriate subjects in their first sitting of the Leaving Certificate, we will make an offer conditional on them passing the subjects.
