Chemistry:

Chemistry required at full A2 level

Biology:

Not essential as long as you take maths or physics instead. However, the majority of successful applicants have biology to AS.

Other subjects:

Biology, maths and physics are regarded highly. We wish to see Chemistry, plus a second science or Mathematics.

General studies:

We do not consider General Studies, Critical Thinking, Key Skills. Please check with the Medical School regarding non-academic subjects.

Resit policy:

We do not encourage resits - due to the sheer strength of the candidates we see.

GCSE requirements:

We look at percentage of A* at GCSE when short-listing for interview. If you don't have Maths, Biology and Physics at A Level you should have excellent grades at GCSE in these subjects, or in Maths and Dual Award Combined Sciences (as a minimum requirement).

 

 

 

Alternative qualifications:

 

 

Scottish Highers:

An Advanced Higher (or CYS) in Chemistry and
5 Grade A Highers. These must include a Higher in Biology and / or Maths and/or Physicss
If you don't have Maths, Biology and Physics at Advanced Higher or Higher Level you must have Intermediate 2 or standard grade (Credit) in these subjects.

International Baccalaureate:

You must take Chemistry as a group 4 subject and also a second science subject from group 4 in place of a group 6 subject. Chemistry and the second science and/or mathematics must be taken at the Higher level. Candidates will be expected to achieve a score of 7, 6 and 6 in subjects taken at Higher level and an overall score of at least 38-40 points.

Irish Leaving certificate:

Higher or Honour grades of at least AAAABB for entry to Oxford. We would wish to see relevant subjects at this level.
