Chemistry:

Chemistry required at full A2 level

Biology:

Biology not essential as long as you have 2 science subjects at A2 and GCSE biology (grade B).

Other subjects:

Most other subjects are accepted as a third A2, provided you have at least 2 sciences at A2 (Chemistry, Biology, Maths or Physics). We do not consider Maths and Further Maths as two separate subjects at A Level.

General studies:

The University of Glasgow Medical School does not accept re-sits.

GCSE requirements:

A GCSE pass in English - grade B. If Biology is not studied at A2 it should be taken at AS level or GCSE.

 

 

 

Alternative qualifications:

 

 

Scottish Highers:

AAAAB at one sitting including Chemistry and Biology and either Maths or Physics. Pass in SG English at grade 3 or above. Note: it is acceptable to take Chemistry or Biology as a crash Higher in S6 provided grades AAAAB are obtained in S5. Candidates are not considered for entry to Medicine from S5. A candidate's performance in fifth year is most important and only those who obtain at least AAAAB in S5 will be considered from S6. Candidates are advised to study three academic subjects in S6. There are no specific requirements but candidates are encouraged to study as widely as possible. Conditions may be set on S6 subjects, to be obtained at one sitting. Preference is given to those who sit Highers in one year of study. However consideration will be given to applicants sitting Highers over two years, but stringent conditions may be placed on results achieved in S6.

International Baccalaureate:

Total Score of 36 to include Chemistry at a score of 6 at Higher Level and Biology at Higher Level with one from Maths or Physics at standard level.

Irish Leaving certificate:

Higher Level AAAABB with Chemistry and preferably Biology and one from Physics or Maths at Higher Level.
