Resit policy:

Alternative qualifications:

Scottish Highers:

AAAAB at one sitting to include Chemistry and two of Biology, Maths or Physics. Students unable to take two of Biology, Maths, Physics in S5 may take the missing subject(s) in S6. Human Biology may replace Biology.
Standard Grade Credit (or Intermediate 2) in Biology, Chemistry, English, Maths. We encourage the study of at least two subjects at AH level in S6. In order to avoid disadvantage to applicants from educational backgrounds where such opportunities are not yet available we will consider the full range of qualifications offered by the applicants. The subjects of greatest relevance to a medical programme are Chemistry and Biology. For some applicants this choice at S5 Higher is neither possible nor appropriate and we are happy to accept Higher Biology taken in S6.

International Baccalaureate:

Applicants for the MBChB degree programme who are offering the International Baccalaureate as an entrance qualification will be expected to have at least three subjects at Higher Level and three subjects at Standard Level with minimum grades of 667 at Higher Level and an overall score (including Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay) of 37 points. For the five-year medicine programme (A100), the subjects offered at Higher Level must include Chemistry and at least one other science or mathematics. Biology should be offered at least at Standard Level and preferably at Higher Level. If not taken as part of the International Baccalaureate system, Mathematics and English should be offered at GCSE at grade B or SQA Standard Grade Credit or SQA Intermediate 2 at grade B.

Irish Leaving certificate:

Applicants who are offering the Irish Leaving Certificate must attain 6 A grades (A1 or A2) at the Higher level. Applicants offering Chemistry, Biology, English and either Mathematics or Physics at Higher level will be considered for the five-year programme.
