Typical offers:

AABc - Either Biology or Chemistry with an A grade at A2 and at least a C in a fourth AS subject.

Chemistry:

Chemistry is only required to AS (grade B) - provided biology is offered at A2 level (grade A)

Biology:

Biology is only required to AS (grade B) provided chemistry is offered at A2 level (grade A)

Other subjects:

You need at least 3 A2 levels (AAB) and one AS level (C). You can do a non-science A2 provided you have at least 2 sciences at A2. Critical thinking is not acceptable at A2.

General studies:

Not acceptable

Resit policy:

We only accept resit applications when they have previously applied to us and have exceptional, extenuating circumstances. Will need to achieve AAA grades.

GCSE requirements:

Grade B in English Language or Welsh 1st Language and Maths; and AA grades in double science or AAB in separate sciences (chemistry, physics and biology. The best 9 GCSEs are assessed.

 

 

 

Alternative qualifications:

 

 

Scottish Highers:

AAAAB grades in Scottish Highers including Chemistry, Physics, Biology and English language are required. You should also have two subjects at Advanced Higher level with AA grades one of which must be Chemistry.

International Baccalaureate:

Applicants require an overall total of 36 points for entry. For the 5-year medical programme (A100), two sciences (out of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and either Mathematics or Statistics) must be offered at Higher Level, one of which is Chemistry or Biology. A minimum of 18 points must be achieved in the Higher Level subjects including a 6 in Chemistry or Biology. Chemistry or Biology must be offered at Subsidiary Level if not at Higher Level. Physics must be offered at GCSE level if not at Higher or Subsidiary Level.

Irish Leaving certificate:

The Irish Leaving Certificate is not accepted on the 5 year course at Cardiff. Irish students should apply to the foundation course (6 year degree) instead.
