Resit policy:

A level resits are not considered. Scottish students who narrowly miss the requirements from the first sitting of S5 may still be considered if they achieve additional requirements in S6. Check their website for further details. Extenuating circumstances relating to very exceptional personal difficulties may also be considered.

GCSE requirements:

Maths & English to grade C (GCSE) or grade 3 (SQA standard grade); Biology & Physics or dual award science are also recommended. Generally, a combination of Grade A & B passes at GCSE expected, especially in science subjects.

'Mature' applicants who have completed full time secondary education and who have elected to delay university entry must have achieved our Academic Going Rates within six years of their proposed entry to the MBChB programme

Scottish Highers:

Year 5 studies:AAAAB in 5 Highers taken at first sitting. Chemistry required to grade B. Two subjects from Biology/Human Biology, Maths & Physics. Two further Highers in most other subjects. Check with Medical Admissions Office if in doubt about suitability of a subject.

Year 6 studies: Candidates who have achieved the Entrance Requirements i.e. 5 Highers at AAAAB or better in S5, are free to choose a programme of study which is of particular interest to them, noting: 3 full academic courses will gain a greater objective academic score. Higher Biology will prove useful. Basic computing skills will prove useful. Scottish year 5 & 6 studies and A-levels to be taken over 2 year (ie at one sitting).

International Baccalaureate:

3 subjects at Higher level at Grade 6 or better (including Chemistry) + 3 other subjects at an average of 6 (including two additional sciences - Maths, Biology or Physics, with at least one at HL). Note: at least 36 points overall, to exclude points for TOK & bonus points.

Irish Leaving certificate:

AAAAAA in six HL taken at first sitting. Chemistry required. Two subjects from Biology, Mathematics and Physics. Only one sitting allowed.
